Class 2

Miss Sellick welcomes you to Class 2!

In our amazing class, we have children from years 2 and 3. During the week in class 2 we are joined by our teaching assistant Mrs Hooper, as well as Mrs Sparks who assists with teaching Maths.

Homework

The expectation for homework in Class 2 is that your child reads to an adult five times a week and records this in their Reading Log. After the book has been read three times, it will then be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Spelling homework is to practice spelling games on Spelling Frame, sometimes words are set to practice at other times please practice common exception words. Maths homework is now set weekly on MyMaths. Log in details for all sites are in the front of your child's Reading Log. A creative challenge is set at the beginning of each term, details can be found on the Class Curriculum Map (which can be found at the bottom of this page).

Class Information

Within the class, there is a strong emphasis on improving independence along with the importance of working and learning together. Throughout the year we will develop our key learning behaviours and growth mindset. This term we are learning all about the Christian value of 'Letting your light shine', how we can do this and how we can ensure that what we do allows others to shine also.

We will work hard to develop a love of reading – both for pleasure and for knowledge as well as improving our understanding of the other core subjects such as writing and Maths. We are constantly looking for and finding links in our learning to build on our knowledge and understanding, during interesting and engaging topics. We enjoy a challenge and always try our best to meet it. Most importantly we love learning and being creative, we look forward to sharing our amazing work with you.

Autumn Term 2025

This term has been an exciting one in Class 2, we have been studying Isambard Kingdom Brunel both in History and Geography, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about, including how Brunel had to persevere with the challenges that he faced. We were also fortunate enough to visit the SS Great Britain, and the children were treated to a tour of the ship and a workshop all about Brunel. The children were fascinated by the size of the rooms, the animals that would have been on board and the clothes people would have worn back then! The trip really brought the whole topic to life for the children.

In R.E we have been looking at Judaism, including looking at their holy book, place of worship, special festivals and special parts of a Synagogue. The children have enjoyed exploring similarities and differences of Judaism with other religions, as well as seeing some of the artifacts used by Jewish people in real life. As well as this, they even enjoyed the challenge of writing some of the letters used in Hebrew.

In Art during this term we have been looking at Monet's work and using different types of media, to recreate his work. This has included, water colours, oil pastels and tissue paper. The children have enjoyed learning new techniques using the different resources, to improve their Monet inspired pictures.
